“In Antarctica time stops, and you are fully living in the moment. To me it feels like the final frontier of Earth, and the last pristine and untouched place. At the same time it is awe-inspiring, it is also very humbling. Ultimately, Antarctica is a place that will change you and stay with you forever.”
With a background in Oceanography, I’ve had the opportunity to sail around the globe. My travels have taken me above the Arctic Circle in the Canadian High Arctic to see the majestic polar bears in the wild, to below the Antarctic Circle where I’ve been surrounded by amusing penguins.
I have visited all seven continents with a real passion for travel, but nothing compares to Antarctica, and South Georgia in particular, which are unparalleled in their wild beauty. They boast more shades of white and blue than you ever thought existed, unique and abundant wildlife, and exciting history.
I have travelled through Argentina several times from the farthest north to Iguazu Falls, to the farthest south in Tierra del Fuego to enjoy the diversity of landscapes, culture and wildlife. Memorable experiences include, the nightlife and San Telmo Markets in Buenos Aires, the music and colourful markets in and around Salta, the wines of Mendoza, and the icefields and snow-capped peaks around El Calafate and El Chalten.
I have been able to explore both the Argentina and Chilean sides of the spectacular Patagonia region, to include backpacking the rugged W Trek in Torres del Paine NP. Touring the numerous and exceptional wineries further north in both Argentina and Chile has also been a highlight. South America just has so much to offer and discover with each visit.
Costa Rica is another favourite destination and boasts an incredible diversity of wildlife, stunning beaches, lush rainforest, and friendly people. From sloths, monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas and colourful birds, there is something unique around every corner. I especially enjoyed sharing this special place with my young children who will never forget the sneaky white-faced capuchin monkeys trying to steal their breakfast!
